MIRTHE researchers – students and faculty from City College New York, Princeton University, Rice University, and the University of Maryland Baltimore County – as well as many members of MIRTHE’s industry and practitioner consortium recently participated in the first International Quantum Cascade Laser School and Workshop (IQCLSW) held at Monte Verita in the Swiss Alps.

The researchers gave about 20 presentations including invited talks and posters. In addition to presenting and discussing recent research results on Quantum Cascade lasers, sensor systems, and applications, MIRTHE’s researchers also spent time networking with European colleagues and planning for future collaborations. After the workshop MIRTHE students Matt Escarra and Peter Qiang Liu climbed (with a little help of a cable car) the Jungfrau Joch – close to the highest mountain tops in Europe – and visited an environmental testing station including a Quantum Cascade laser spectrometer built and maintained by Aerodyne Inc. http://www.iqclsw.phys.ethz.ch/
