P.U.M.A.
The Princeton University Materials Academy (P.U.M.A.) is an already very successful program for high school students, having reached over 200 students since 2002. With a curriculum based on current research at the university, students are immersed in science and engineering for 2-6 weeks in a way that is not possible in a typical high school. 60 traditionally underrepresented minority students each summer learn from lectures, hands-on activities and lab work with lead teachers and Princeton University faculty and students. A special MIRTHE session will be conducted in the coming years to expose young adults to the topics of Mid-IR photonics and sensing with specially designed modules. This program encourages students to pursue careers in science and engineering and increase their chances for success in these fields.
